Should the feint to third then first be considered a balk. The rules allow it, but the rules also state that the pitcher must attempt a throw to pick off a baserunner, not a fake out. There was, as always, disagreement regarding this topic between Morgan and Miller on last nights broadcast.
This isn't sour grapes about the dupe of Jose, he'll be just fine on the bases and that just ain't gonna happen all that much to him... its more of a general discussion issue.
If its legal should it be illegal, and vice versa? Thoughts?

I didn't see the game last night if you are referring to something that happened during that broadcast.
But I would think that he could feint (as long as that means fake throw) to third and then actually throw to first that seems like it would be legal.
It is legal but the problem with it is that the pitcher must step towards both third base, where he fakes, and to first where he throws. In most instances I see, the pitcher completes the first step but then wheels around to pick off the runner on first, which in my eyes is a balk.
But what the hell do I know. Im half in the bag for most games so everything is a blur to me anyways.
If there is deception it is a balk. The rule book states that plain and simple. A pitcher must go from the mound to the plate or from the mound to a base. If he does not it is a balk, and that was certainly a balk the other night. I am not worried about it either as I know the sun shines on a dog's ass from time to time.
I'll ask my dad, he is a real umpire, and if he wasn't drunk and passed out by then, he probably saw it.
