In Between A Rock And Shea Stadium

You'll find Aaron Heilman...

But I have a decent proposal that would put some space between Aaron and the rock. It would at the same time keep him close to Shea.

Tonight coming out of the bullpen he did what he has done so many times. Before the spark of a flame, that hint of fire, he casually exhaled and it was no more.

Albert Pujols may be the best player in baseball but tonight Aaron Heilman was the best player in St.Louis.

Last year's game seven not aside because it wasn't his forest and it certainly wasn't his fire. Not to place blame but Willie gave Mota the matches and sometimes when others play with matches everyone gets burned. One more cliche but sometimes you can go to the well too often, you'll find it's all dried up...Mota before Heilman in that spot will always be a very perplexing decision to me.

Remember when Willie Oleson & Albert Ingalls decided to smoke cigars in the basement of the new school for the blind? Well I do and so does Mary Ingalls Kendall who lost her baby that sorrowful day in a fiery blaze. Was it the fault of Alice Garvey who tried to rescue the baby? Was it her fault because she was unsucessful? No, it wasn't...and it wasn't Aaron Heilman's fault last year either. He tried but the fire was too hot and like Alice there was nothing that could be done to put out the fire. It was simply too late...

I know that life isn't always like
Little House on the Prarie but sometimes it would be nice for life to end up moral and decent if it can't be happy (kind of like on LHOTP).

Aaron Heilman won't ever be truly be happy coming out of the bullpen. But if the Mets give credit where credit is due, if they can be moral and decent then they would make things right with Aaron (who sort of has a LHOTP name). They don't have to give him Wags or Rivera money but give him a good long contract and the money that a respected set-up man or even a very good closer would get. Give it to him now. Despite his moodiness, Aaron always gets the job done once the season starts, once he gets to the park, once he warms up in the pen and most importantly when he climbs up on that hill and stares out at some of the best in the game like he did tonight. Fearlessly, he takes the ball whenever the oppurtunity arises...he does this because he is a gamer.

It's time for the Mets to treat Heilman like one of their own as he was born into the MLB out of their franchise. He has repaid them by taking the ball whenver it is given to him, because like the contract I feel he is owed, it is the only decent thing to do.

Another good win tonight boys...

As Always...

Is Heilman that discontented? I mean, wasn't last year his official rookie year? Cut the Mets some slack there tough guy.

Two things.

1)Willy needs to stop treating Heilman like Trachsel and show more respect to whiteboy

2) Heilman needs to stop being a crybaby. He thinks he deserves to start, hell I think he deserves to start, but the people that pay his salary think hes best suited for the pen.

...so that's that.

Aaron Heilman was a rookie four years ago UJF...I hate to smack you because you are so cute but get your info straight before you comment. This is officially his fifth year in the big leagues. He came up for a cup in 2003, a bigger cup in 2004, a full season in 2005 & 2006. This is his walk year and I still think it's time for the Mets to pony up.

Donkey, he hasn't bitched...he's just adamantly mentioned his desires to start...there is a difference. NFL players hold out and whine when they don't get there way. So does Barry Bonds, Manny Ramirez,etc...but Heilman has just answered the questions that have been asked. He has that right. But like I said when all is said and done, the man just takes the ball and pitches. For that reason alone he deserves some pay for the play.

Perhaps crybaby was too strong of a word, but he has had a tendency to mope (off the field) I am in full agreement with him, that he deserves to be a starter and unless as you say the Mets pony up, he probably will be elsewhere. Unfortunately circumstances of injuries and what have you, more than anything else have dictated his situation.

Let's face it, he is GONE after this year. Nobody wants to be a "good setup man" unless the team he plays for wins the WS every year. He is a ghost after this season. Let's just hope he has another great season, because it's like his tryout for another team at this point. Although, I will give him more credit than that, he does his job on the field and you know he's always going to give it his all.

Speaking of the Mets, Mooks I will get back to you about opening day, I have to sort out how many tickets I am getting. It is either 2 or 4, and I don't know if my boss is going with me or not. If I get 4 and my boss is not going with me, Unruly has already been invited, and my wife may join me as well (I'm trying to get her involved early this year). But it's all up in the air right now. Either way, I am there. What time will you suckers be leaving? Note: It took me 2 and a half hours to get to Yankee Stadium on Opening Day, and I'm sure Shea is going to be worse. (Again, got tickets from my boss, and I would always rather watch a baseball game during the day then work, I had a ton of beers and it was a good game actually, but fuck the Yankees).
