Wow, the Phillies own the fucking Mets. The bullpen needs some help or some fucking rest. Jesus.
That being said, the Mets are GOING to the playoffs. Let's just hope the Phillies don't get there! From what I can tell, the Phils can only beat the Mets, so they will probably shit the bed the remainder of the season and not make the playoffs. However, they could get there and lose in the first round, because they can't play the Mets in that round.
Regardless, the starting pitching has been pretty good for the most part, David Wright is making a case for MVP and even Carlos Beltran hit a huge HR at Shea yesterday! So I see some hope if the bullpen can get their shit together before the playoffs start.
GOOOOOO METS!

It keeps getting worse. The Mets dropped another game to the Nats. Jesus, they are only 2.5 games up!
Last night was the worst game of baseball I have seen a Mets team play since the Art Howe era. It was simply just embarassing. I don't know about you guys but if the Mets don't make the playoffs Willie better get fired. He isn't a good manager and he looks bored. So if he doesn't care then why is he managing the team? He wouldn't even make eye contact with any of his players last night. 13 games left...if the Mets win 7 more and the Phillies lose at least 4 we are in but I think it's time for some fire and since we know it's not coming from Willie it better come from the players. According to Mets.blog and Matt Cerrone, Paulie Duke and Delgado are planning a team meeting for some time today. Paul & Carlos are the only two who looked mad last night (of course Willie replaced Paul with Mike Defelice in the fifth inning???!!!) so I hope they tell Jose to get his head out of his ass, remind David he can't do it by himself, tell the Mole to get his chin off the floor, and remind the team that they are playing meaningful baseball. They can't make Mota,Sosa, and Showenweiss not suck but they can at least play hard. They should remind the team that going into tonight's game they still have the best record in the NL and it's time to start playing like it.
PS - Why is Humber on the team if he isn't going to pitch? We all know what Brian Lawrence is worth (4 & 1/3 innings his last three games) so why was Willie conceeding the game last night before a pitch was even thrown? And after Sosa gave up a grand slam the day before why is Willie putting him right back out there as a first option out of the pen? Where is Humber? Willie is a bad manager and I am getting really tired of his brooding in the dugout. Hey Willie if you didn't make such bad decisions then maybe we wouldn't be in this mess. Get your act together, show some fire, and instead of letting your players get thrown out of games why don't you try it? It might make it look like you actually care.
This from the NY Post ~
Though the late-game relief corps of Billy Wagner, Aaron Heilman and Pedro Feliciano has been fine, the Mets are having middle-inning troubles with the likes of Jorge Sosa and Guillermo Mota. Sosa was one of five relievers (with Aaron Sele, Scott Schoeneweis, Willie Collazo and Joe Smith) who combined to allow seven earned runs in 42/3 innings last night.
It's worth wondering whether giving starting pitcher Philip Humber, a recent Triple-A call-up, a shot at sixth-inning duty could make sense. Humber is working out of the bullpen, though without a specific role.
"You don't take a young pitcher who's never done it before and try to force-feed him into a situation like that," Randolph said.
Humber has tossed five innings in four relief appearances in his major-league career, allowing one run on three hits and striking out four.
MOOKS CONTINUES...
Why not? Willie is an idiot. How much of Mota, Sosa, & Showenweiss does he need to see before he realizes it's not fair to Mets fans to continually "try to force-feed them into situations like that." Does Willie really want to win or does he just want to stay friends with the veterans on his team? Play Lastings, give Humber a chance, use Carlos Gomez to pinch hit, etc...Wake up Willie. It's time to play winning baseball...maybe I could use a Subway sandwich on a fishing pole and lead him to some sense of good judgement.
Do I have to go to DC?
Actually they played better last night...that's really all I can say. I certainly don't know what to say about these Willie sound bytes:
"This is very normal to me. This is what championship baseball is."
&
"When we're sipping a little champagne in a little while," Randolph said, "this will all seem like a long time ago."
I too am confident that the Mets will rebound...one win tonight with the Cards sending their best pitcher to the mound tonight in Adam Wainwright who we all remember from Game 7 last year. One win will make everything alright coupled with a Philthy loss...back to three games up in the loss with Tommy & Petey going Thursday & Friday. Sure, I'm pretty confident.
But come on Willie!!! This is championship baseball??? Sipping champagne??? Are you watching the same games? He is proving my assumption true that he is either an idiot or just plain crazy. Lets win a game first, eh, Willie?
The deal with the Red Sox is as follows:
We're great.
14 1/2 games ahead, and then June started, since which it is .500 ball. Not bad, actually.
In June and July Dice K had the lowest ERA of a starting pitcher. I taught English in Japan, I understand what he is going through. It's difficult. The future is good.
Baseball religion says Cleveland Indians deserve the same tonic that Red Sox and White Sox got after their long droughts. So be it.
Mets will make the playoffs, Red Sox will make the playoffs. We here in the WEEI zone know the Yanks are really good now and we wish we could get the Division, but we have been thinking about October for a long time now. 10 games to go.
We have been thinking about the Salary Cap for an even longer time. Florida Marlins, step on up.
I think the nurse is telling you to get your ass out of bed and get to work.
