This post is from an email I got from Mooks, who, believe it or not, is still out there...
From the newsday.com With all of this early trash-talking between Carlos Beltran and Jimmy Rollins, as well as the Mets and Phillies, it's starting to sound as if these two teams are vying for the WBO title rather than the National League East crown.
According to a report by ESPN's Jayson Stark, a few of Rollins' Philly teammates have been privately fuming about Beltran's comments and even suggested to Stark that "there will be a brawl this year."
Billy Wagner said, "If one of their little 25-year-olds wants to come out and whip my ass, they can brag that they whipped a 37-year-old man's ass. Well, good for them. It's always good to play that underdog role. If they come out there, though, there's two things that could happen. I'm pretty sure they're going to whip my ass. But what if I get a shot in? What if? Then you just got your ass whipped on national TV by the littlest guy in baseball, so think of that 'What if?'"
When a reporter told Randolph that the Phillies could be itching for a brawl this season, the manager loved it. "Is that right? That's what I'm talking about," Randolph said. "I didn't hear that and I didn't see that, but that's how you build a rivalry.
Only 37 & 1/2 days left until Opening Day...it can't come a day sooner. Let's get it on! PS - The Phillies are a bunch of pansies. I don't remember any of the Mets threatening a fight last year when Rollins opened his pie hole. Maybe they should have, I don't know. But the Philthies better concern themselves with the fact that their best pitcher is Brett Myers (who can only beat up his wife), their first baseman has rocks for hands and ten million more reasons to have that extra cheeseburger before a long day in the sun, & Brad Pujols, uh I mean Lidge is their closer. I'll give them Utley & Rollins. Those guys can play (although you could cut their numbers in half at Shea...ala Rollins never hit more than 8 home runs until they moved into CBP). Maybe we should sign Clemens just so he can throw one pitch (although it'll probably cost a pro-rated salary of 15 million). One pitch, opening day right between the blades...I don't think Rollins would say too much after that...
PSS - All jokes about Shawn Estes are acceptable at this point in time... PSSS - Red is for sissies and commies...
